PhD scholarship in the field of Learning and Assessment - University of Aarhus, Denmark

The HumanitiesGraduateSchool, Faculty of Humanities, University of Aarhus, invites applications for a 3-year PhD scholarship in learning and assessment in the humanities with emphasis on the Master’s thesis, starting on 1 September 2008 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The PhD scholarship will be financed by the Faculty of Humanities.

The main goal of the PhD project is to examine the Master’s thesis as a form of assessment focussing on the institutional setting, learning objectives and its potential development. The goal is to ensure that the development of forms of assessment in Master’s degree programs in the humanities is based on solid curricular and pedagogical foundations.

The degree programmes in the humanities are in constant development and this includes changes in forms of assessment through legislation and needs arising from new degree programmes. The project should analyse the consequences of these changes in the Masters thesis as a form of assessment and relate these to the competences of the candidates. The project should be anchored in pedagogical perspectives on assessment in higher education in close association with the academic environments.

The PhD scholar will be enrolled as a PhD student at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Aarhus, with the aim of completing a PhD degree at Centre for Educational Development, University of Aarhus. The PhD scholar will be affiliated with the postgraduate programmes of study ICT, Communication, Media Studies and Journalism.

The PhD scholar will be employed by the University of Aarhus. The terms of employment as a PhD scholar will be in accordance with the agreement of 11 January 2006 between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on PhD scholarships with addition of 9 November 2007.
